Mindful Morning

Living the Question

“Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you”
– Rainer Maria Rilke

(June 2022 pre-recording)

“I want to beg you, as much as I can,
to be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart
and to try to love the questions themselves
like locked rooms and like books that are written in a very foreign tongue.
Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you
because you would not be able to live them.

And the point is, to live everything.
Live the questions now.
Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it,
live along some distant day into the answer.”
– Rilke

This poem has inspired my art process many times and continues to do so each time I re-engage with the poem during the art-making process.

During these challenging and unpredictable times, many questions arise for each of us, questions we possibly wish we had answers to. Rilke’s poem inspires and encourages us to release the answers and to seek the potential meaning and inspiration in living the questions themselves… and in so doing give the questions “permission” to inspire our journey.

In this Mindful Morning, I guide you through meditation to help you connect with your heart. Following the meditation, you are invited to allow questions to arise that are currently living in you, that feels meaningful to you. Using your non-dominant hand (your non-writing hand), write these questions down, just as they arise, in your journal or on a piece of paper, one under the other. (5 mins)

Reading through your list, I will ask you to spontaneously draw a circle around the question that has the most resonance and meaning to you at this moment. Based on this question will then ask you to find an image and spend a few minutes reflecting and journaling.

Try to remain curious at all times as to what comes up for you 🙂
